Part 2: Do-It-Yourself Cyber Engineer’s Toolkit (DIY CET)

  • Overview: Throughout 2019, the ISSA-COS Training Committee will host a series of hands-on sessions called “Do-It-Yourself Cyber Engineer’s Toolkit (DIY CET).” During the various sessions, attendees will receive software and introductory training necessary to build their own cyber toolkit and laboratory. They will also learn how to scan home networks for vulnerabilities, how to build (or update) a home or home office firewall, and many other tasks essential to cyber security. These sessions will be interspersed with other presentations throughout the year.
  • DIY CET Instructor: Jeff Tomkiewicz
  • Topic: Session 2 – Shodan: IOT Search Engine
  • Synopsis: ISSA-COS will work with participants using their VirtualBox, Kali Linux, and Ubuntu machines and download and utilize the Shodan IOT search engine through command line (CLI).  It is highly suggested once again that participants bring a laptop. However, it is also acceptable to simply observe and take notes or even team with others if they are willing to sharing. Suggested laptop specifications include: at least 8 GB of memory, 1 GB of disk, and a CD drive or flash drive port available. The more memory and CPU speed you have, the better.
