Mini-Seminar for CPE/CEUs – TRAINING EVENT!!

Want to gain knowledge on something new? Want to brush up, get a refresher, on something you may already know? Want to earn a few continuing education units (e.g. CPE/CEUs)? Join us at our next ISSA Colorado Springs mini-seminar! Join the discussion and share your knowledge, thoughts, and perspectives with fellow ISSA members!

Part 1: Technical Presentation

Guest Speaker: Phebe C. Swope

Topic: Font Code – Where do you hide your messages?

Font Code was developed as a process to bend specific letters to create a signature in a font. It is often used as a method for determining if documents have been tampered with. When applied for cryptic purpose, it can also be used to hide mathematical messages within documents. Please join us as Ms. Swope shares her professional knowledge on practical applications for Font Code and specific examples of how Font Code has been used in the past.

Part 2: Do-It-Yourself Cyber Engineer’s Toolkit (DIY CET)

Throughout 2019, the ISSA-COS Training Committee will host a series of hands-on sessions called “Do-It-Yourself Cyber Engineer’s Toolkit (DIY CET).” During the various sessions, attendees will receive software and introductory training necessary to build their own cyber toolkit and laboratory. They will also learn how to scan home networks for vulnerabilities, how to build (or update) a home or home office firewall, and many other tasks essential to cyber security. These sessions will be interspersed with other presentations throughout the year.

DIY CET Instructor: Mark Heinrich

Topic: Session 1 – Basic Building

ISSA-COS will provide participants with distributions containing VirtualBox, Kali Linux, and Ubuntu Linux to load onto participant’s machines. If you have your own distributions, feel free to use them. It is highly suggested that participants bring a laptop. However, it is also acceptable to simply observe and take notes or even team with others if they are willing to sharing. Suggested laptop specifications include: at least 8 GB of memory, 1 GB of disk, and a CD drive or flash drive port available. The more memory and CPU speed you have, the better.

Advanced Registration is FREE until 16 Jan. Thereafter, a $10 registration fee will be imposed and will be applicable to late registrants and walk-ins.
